A brief look at Valois' exciting Greek destinations:
ATHENS: One can't help but soak up history wandering through Plaka, the old area of Athens surrounding the Acropolis, atop which sit the ruins of the Parthenon. A huge, bustling city with sights both ancient and modern like the Temple of Zeus, Hadrian's Arch, the National Garden, and the first Olympic stadium of modern times, Athens makes culture impossible to escape. If you've ever wanted to sip a glass of ouzo at a fantastic restaurant overlooking the most famous monument of classical antiquity, you'll get your chance. You'll get to know the Greek Gods on an intimate level, and if you experience the thriving nightlife, maybe even meet one of your own.
MYKONOS: Mykonos is the gay mecca of the Cyclades, known as much for the beauty of its male visitors as the beauty of its trademark windmills, whitewashed villages, and incredible beaches. It's a vacation magnet for men from Germany and England for its close-to-perfect weather and its legendary all-night parties. Cafes and shops line the tangle of streets in the main port of Hora, whose unconventional street layout was planned haphazardly on purpose in earlier times to confuse pirates. While there are many beautiful temples and ancient ruins, you'll be hard pressed to get away from the fun - most visitors here sleep until noon as they've been partying till the early hours. Then it's time to hit the sparkling blue water and sand for which this island is celebrated.
SANTORINI: Gorgeous, windswept vistas, and blue and white villages clinging to the sides of cliffs absorb the marvelous sunsets. Santorini is the poster boy for all the Greek isles. Created over 3,000 years ago by a volcanic eruption, the island carries with it a mystical quality you'll never forget. Its two main towns, Fira and Ia are situated atop cliffs with stunning vistas of the Aegean, while the rest of the island is remarkably flat and beautifully barren. Black sand beaches attract both gay and straight sunbathers and nature worshippers. Delicious Greek food abounds, as do plenty of bars and clubs, yet more soothing traditions are prized here. Each evening thousands of residents and visitors watch the sunset with rapture.
CRETE: Situated where the continents of Europe, Asia, and Africa come together, Crete's history is built upon its geographic importance as a strategic holding for civilizations from antiquity to the present. Originally ruled by the Minoans for a period of about 1,500 years, the island has passed through the hands of the Dorian Greeks, the Romans, Arab Saracens, Venetians, the Ottoman Empire, and even the Germans. Its extensive sets of ruins are testament to its rich history of cultures. It's also an island of breathtaking landscapes: majestic white mountains, long plateaus, deep gorges, and fertile valleys. Villages perched on ledges, lone monasteries, olive groves, and romantic castles smothered in greenery. With plenty of nightlife, restaurants, and outdoor activities, Crete is an island of never-ending discoveries.
